In the Langhe, wine cannot be understood without the land, its history and the people who shape it. Our visit to G.D. Vajra was an opportunity to discover everything behind the wines and learn more about this winery in Barolo
A Family Story Rooted in the Land
The story of G.D. Vajra is closely linked to Aldo Vajra, who established the familyās vision for the estate. In 1971, he became one of the pioneers of organic farming in the Langhe, developing an approach rooted in respect for the land and a deep commitment to expressing the character of each vineyard
The winery works with some of the regionās most emblematic grape varieties, including Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera, while also helping to preserve traditional varieties such as Freisa. Its wines reflect the diversity of the Langhe, from the more accessible Barolos to complex, age-worthy expressions shaped by individual vineyards and the distinctive character of each site.
A Visit Behind the Scenes at the Winery
The visit began with an introduction to the familyās history and the winery. Before tasting the wines, we had the opportunity to learn more about the estate, understand its journey and discover its facilities during the tour

One of the highlights of our visit was the tasting of several wines. Tasting them in the winery itself offers a different perspective, providing a better understanding of the work behind each label and the different expressions of the Langhe

The wineryās facilities, the barrels and the wines we discovered along the way all contributed to a rewarding visit. There was time to learn, ask questions and enjoy the experience at an unhurried pace
A Must-Visit for Wine Lovers
Our visit to G.D. Vajra offered a personal, family-centred perspective on the world of Barolo. Beyond the wines themselves, we came away with fond memories of a thoroughly enjoyable visit, with clear explanations and the opportunity to taste a wide range of wines
If you are planning a wine tour through the Langhe, G.D. Vajra is well worth including in your itinerary. We recommend booking your visit in advance.
